Story of the Oval Shade Garden
This peaceful shade bed is one of three oval gardens at Wittenberg Gardens, designed to remain beautifully defined through the changing seasons. Variegated liriope and hostas line the perimeter, taking turns keeping the borders fresh and green.
In spring, the hostas are first to emerge, soon joined by the liriope. As the hostas begin to fade later in the season, the liriope takes over, sending up delicate blue blooms and holding its foliage through the winter—keeping the ovals tidy even during the quietest months.
But spring brings the grandest announcement of all. Thousands of tulips burst into bloom around the perimeter, joyfully announcing the grand entrance of the ovals for another year in the garden!
